La primavera a Nueva York ha llegado tarde, cuando ya todos los cerezos han perdido sus flores en Japón y la euforia de las celebraciones de Hanami han acabado es cuando en Nueva York está en su mayor apogeo. Los japoneses, fieles a sus tradiciones y arraigados a ellas allí donde se encuentren organizaron este último fin de semana de abril el festival del cerezo en flor o "Sakura Matsuri" en el Jardín Botánico de Brooklyn.
